Listening to Elders in our Minority Community

April 8, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - May 12, 2017 @ 8:00 pm

Come join us. We hope you can make it! River Road Annex, 1055 River Road. Hosted by Springfield-Eugene “Showing up for Racial Justice” S-E S.U.R.J.
4/7-5/12 . . . F . . . 7-8:30p
Adults: $30 . . . Senior: $18 . . . Youth: $6

Each listening session features a different elder, or an elder couple, recalling their life stories—with personal insights drawn from living in minority communities locally.
Note: if the fee is a difficulty, come early to the first class anyway and speak with the facilitator.

For six sessions, beginning this Friday evening April 7, different elders from different non-dominant communities will be featured to talk about their lives.
I am calling these “Listening sessions” because they are not lectures or debates, etc., but times when elders will be offering their life stories to people outside their own minority community.
River Road Parks District and S-E SURJ is co-hosting it. (Springfield-Eugene Showing Up for Racial Justice)
Session #1 opens the series with scheduled guest Willie Mims and Sally Mims of local African-American community and local history
Session #2’s guest is scheduled to be local sculptor who is a Jewish holocaust survivor.
Session #4’s guest is scheduled to be the DJ of “Indian Time”” on the radio (KRvM 91.9 Thursday evenings 7-9)
Session #6 will be at a different location to be in conjunction with the opening of the “We Are Your Neighbors” exhibit at the Springfield Museum.
