The Unthank Hall renaming ceremony, to be held Wednesday, November 15 in the EMU Redwood Auditorium at 7pm. The panel is intended to explore student activism, particularly in its ability to advance conversations around race, tolerance, and inclusion at this critical time on and beyond campus.
President Schill will moderate a panel discussion featuring distinguished historian Curtis Austin, Ph.D., renowned community leader Dante J. James, ESQ., and our very own Brianna Hayes, who embodies student activism and achievement. Please see the attached flyer which highlights additional information.
In brief, the renaming to Unthank was identified as one of the 12 Demands of the Black Student Task Force and this historic occasion presents an opportunity to signal progress in advancing forward our shared desire to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are commonplace at the UO. Further significant is Unthank, which will become the first UO building named for an African American.
Amidst these particularly challenging times, I personally encourage you to take care of yourself as well as each other. If you would like to gather after the event, I am more than happy to help arrange a debrief at a local establishment conducive to fellowship and coalition building.
