Mattie Reynolds-Eugene/Springfield NAACP Scholarship

The Mattie Reynolds NAACP Scholarship was created in honor of long-time Eugene resident and African American leader Mattie Reynolds to honor her commitment to education.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be an entering college freshman as a full–time student.
  • Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and seeking enrollment in an accredited college in the United States.
  • NAACP membership is required and participation is highly desirable.
  • Applicant must possess a grade point average of at least 2.75 (C+) in a 4.0 system.
  • Mattie Reynolds Eugene/ Springfield NAACP Scholarship is non-renewable.
  • Applicant must be a Lane County resident.
  • Applicant must be received by, May 15, 2017
Application Process: Required Materials

  • 250-500 word essay explaining why you deserve the scholarship.  Essay should include the following information about you:
    • Extracurricular Activities
    • Community Service Activities
    • Career Goals
    • Academic Achievements
    • Experience with NAACP and/or ACT-SO
  • Three letters of recommendation (other than relatives)
    • One personal reference
    • One academic reference
    • One NAACP member reference
  • A copy of an admission letter or a letter of commitment from a college or university (this can be turned in after application deadline)
