In the mist of National uncertainty and leadership change the NAACP met to renew itself in the light of mounting obstacles. Recognizing the need to modernize and address issues such as climate change the NAACP national convention was well attended with many well known advocates in attendance. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Eric Holder, and Jessie Jackson to name a few. State area conference president out of Mississippi Derek Johnson was named Interim president the first night of the convention. Although our local Champions Faith Longnight and Makalay McKinney didn’t medal this year they represented our branch with poise and grace. The youth council under the leadership of incoming president Kai Isaia were able to visit Harlem and Washington DC in addition to participating in workshops and hearing from National figures in the civil rights movement. Enjoy these shots!
