Our mission is to ensure equitable and quality education for all, regardless of background or circumstance. Through a series of strategic steps outlined in our plan overview, we are dedicated to auditing existing tools, programming, and partnerships, while also soliciting valuable feedback from our community. Our ultimate goal is to develop and execute a comprehensive community plan that addresses the diverse needs of students, families, educators, and the wider community.
To achieve this, we are embarking on a thorough review of existing NAACP education programs and partnerships, evaluating their effectiveness and impact. We’re also examining initiatives like the Student Council, HONEY, BCI, and our collaboration with United Way. Additionally, we’re auditing scholarships and carefully assessing finances to ensure resources are allocated effectively.
Central to our strategy is the formation of a dynamic committee comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and energy. We’re actively recruiting teachers, students, families (including parents), administrators, community members, and business partners. Our aim is to ensure representation across all groups, from early childhood through post-graduate education.
To support our committee members, we’re developing tools for recruitment and training. Through flyers, surveys, and other resources, we’re empowering our team to engage effectively with the community and implement impactful initiatives.
One of our key initiatives involves hosting six listening sessions, with two sessions per month, rotating between Bethel, Springfield, and the 4J school districts. We’re also providing a virtual option via Zoom to ensure accessibility for all. These sessions, scheduled from April to June, will serve as invaluable opportunities to collect feedback, analyze conversations, identify common themes, and collaboratively develop a plan for the upcoming ’24-’25 school year. We’re committed to transparency and will share the insights gained from these sessions with the wider community.
Looking ahead, we’re eager to establish volunteer positions and create a calendar of events that align with our mission and goals. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and communities across our region.
