Climate Truth Rally! Hosted by 350 Eugene, Cascadia Wildlands and Oregon Wild.

February 21, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join forest & climate activists to make it clear that we agree with the science:

Clearcuts Cause Climate Change and we don’t have time for false solutions!

Save the Date – Event Links coming soon – Email JG@Oregonwild.org for follow up reminders!

On February 21st, we will gather at the intersection of 13th and Monroe to demonstrate at the 2020 Oregon Logging Conference (OLC), who have claimed a theme this year of Working Forests, Carbon Keepers.  The OLC includes speakers from the Oregon Forest Industries Council and Timber Unity, lobbyists for the clearcutting industry, these are the main organizations responsible for halting the progress of Oregon’s 2019 climate legislation.

This rally will make an effort to reach both students and workers attending the event with the truth about the clearcut logging, which is being promoted as a climate solution. The rally will include a calm space where those attending the conference are invited to Talk to a Climate Activist with a warm drink and a pastry.

Studies from Oregon State University and the Oregon Global Warming Commission show that logging is one of Oregon’s biggest sources of greenhouse gasses, and wood products only store ~20% of the carbon that was sequestered in the forest they came from. This rally stands in support of a just transition for Oregon’s timber industry as well as responsible, climate smart forest management that provides jobs and wood products without destroying Oregon’s forests and watersheds.
