6 – 7:30 pm Tsunami Book store

November’s Community Spotlight focuses on Oregon District 7 Representative Cedric Hayden. Mr. Hayden grew up in rural Fall Creek, Oregon, where he still lives. He is a sixth generation member of a Covered Wagon pioneer family. When he was growing up, his parents dedicated themselves to oral public health services in third world countries. Being immersed in his family’s public health service lifestyle encouraged his desire to be involved in public service himself. As a state representative, Mr. Hayden has served in the leadership of several committee concerned with health care, early childhood and family supports, and ways and means.

Cedric and his wife Julie began a dental charity in late 2007, as a safety net for children and adults who don’t have insurance or access to a dentist. Their efforts have expanded to running pro bono mobile dental clinics in rural Oregon, as well as in Micronesia, Zambia, Africa, and Madagascar. In his spare time, he enjoys being at home with his family and taking care of his horses.

Community Spotlight is a City Club gathering in which local leaders participate in informal interviews about their lives and work. Tsunami Bookstore hosts the event on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 pm. Light refreshments are provided by the culinary students at Network Charter School, and the public is encouraged to attend. There is no admission charge for Community Spotlight, but guests are invited to contribute to help cover the costs.
