Smoke Alert Event!- Forestry Management Discussion

January 7, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Beyond Toxics Presents:SMOKE ALERT: What’s Happening with Oregon’s Forest Practices?

Early in 2019, the State of Oregon will adopt new rules that allow more “planned” fires in our forests. We question if more fire will introduce negative outcomes such as unnecessary carbon emissions and smoke intrusions. The panelists will present important new research from Oregon-based organizations about carbon emissions and forest fires, the consequences of “prescribed fire” in managed forests and the relationship between smoke, carbon pollution and community health.

The panelists include Dr. Kari Norgaard, UO Professor and Co-Author of the Karuk Climate Action PlanTim Ingalsbee from Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics and Ecology (FUSEE), and Lisa Arkin, Executive Director of Beyond Toxics.
